By modulating activity, SSRIs can indirectly elevate prolactin, which in turn stimulates breast tissue. Drugs such as risperidone, haloperidol, and olanzapine are potent dopamine antagonists that substantially raise prolactin levels. However, this is not always the case. Once glandular breast tissue has become establishedparticularly after twelve months or more — it tends to be fibrous and persistent, and will not resolve on its own regardless of whether the medication is stopped.
